My Mini Work Space

8.03.2018

emember this little space in my room? Well, because of switching my college to online a proper place to study was needed. I had an enormous desk in my dorm and so many newly bought supplies. They simply needed a home. And I couldn't be happier with the final look.

A space like this is just what I needed being home now. It helps me feel so organized. I was feeling so unproductive doing things on my bed, so now no more neck cramps, haha. I bought the desk from WayFair and I pretty much knew it was for me, because it's named "Jenna's Writing Desk." How perfect it that? My name is rarely used in any type of advertising or in Hollywood, so I always love seeing it.

Anyone remember the way my room looked years ago on the blog? Well, I tend to change my mind (a lot) but I have a feeling this new addition is going to be kept for a very long time!! I'd still love to hang some twinkle lights, but I go back and forth on that.

3 Reasons To Have Morning Rituals + My Own

6.08.2018

ince college, I have been such a morning person! Being back in my bedroom feels amazing. I have my own space, without the worry of waking up my roommate. For some reason, I feel the need to be extra productive since my college will be all online come July. So now, I have been creating a few rituals that have been so good for me!! Here are a few reasons why I hope that you too can perfect your morning ritual, along with sharing my personal routine run-down!

Sets the tone for the day.
This is my main reason for creating a morning schedule. It's amazing how I feel when I wake up knowing all that my day holds. One thing I add within my morning ritual down below is my gratitude journal. I've been trying so hard to use it regularly, and I'm loving the results!

Can spark creativity.
When my room is clean, laundry is done, and emails are sorted, I can finally enjoy my day. Even if it's a simple act of being creative with my smoothie ingredients it then becomes a change of pace. I feel inspired best when my surroundings are clean and full of nature light!

Makes you more productive.
An obvious one, I know, but waking up early and tackling a to-do list all before 11am in the summer is truly incredible. This really has surprised me being home, because sleeping in or taking a long shower is always nice, however, I feel that those two rituals are not helpful during the week.

                          My Personal Rituals!!

1.  Make the bed.
2.  Take care of my dog.
3.  Start a load of laundry.
4.  Check emails.
5.  Get ready, be happy with outfit choice and hairstyle!
6.  Make a healthy breakfast.
7.  Listen to a podcast in between tasks.
8.  Do a devotional.
9.  Be creative. Watch a YouTube video while doing makeup or listen to music.
10. Write down 5 things in a gratitude journal.

7 WAYS TO DECLUTTER YOUR SPACE

4.12.2017

here's just something about keeping everything organized, or finding a place for it! I love spring cleaning, it's my itch to have everything in order for summer.

Leaving for college in the fall also made this year's organizing a lot more helpful and different. Some of these tips below really helped me in the process of getting rid of junk I no longer need, or creating the space I do need for the time being. My room feels so fresh, and makes me feel so calm now.

1. DESIGNATE CATCH-ALL AREAS: Having places to toss my keys, coins, iPhone, or rings when I get home makes my room a whole less messer. You can use a ceramic bowl for small items, or designate a drawer in your space to hide away some extra clutter.

2. MAKE THE BED: This is the easiest and fastest thing you can accomplish when you wake up! I literally have to make my bed everyday, if I wish to walk around one side of my room, otherwise it's pilled high with pillows!

3. CLEAR OUT EMAIL: Nothing bugs me more than spam email. It's not a physical space to sort through, but it's the little things that make us feel like our lives are actually put together. Just take 10 minutes going through your inbox, and unsubscribe from those companies you're tired of hearing from.

4. GO THROUGH MAGAZINES: I just got done doing this, and it created a lot more empty and free space! As cute as it may be, I don't need to hold onto Anthropologie's magazine that's no longer in season!

5. ORGANIZE CLOSET: This is the hard one! I just went through my shoes, clothes, and school papers. And, I did some laundry which helped too, haha! Just using storage bins, baskets, and even storage dividers helps create more space, and makes the space I have more functional.

6. THROW AWAY OLD MAKEUP: I actually create a post specifically about the issue of having too much makeup, and spending time de-cluttering! Check it out to help your process of throwing away makeup.

7. MAKE YOUR PURSE FUNCTIONAL: A messy, and unorganized purse is a huge pet peeve of mine. I literally get so frustrated while running errands and I cannot find my keys, or even a pack of gum because of all the receipts, gum wrappers, tissues, and crumbled up notes that practically fall out of my bag. So, I changed this problem by throwing away my junk, and by adding some tiny clear see-through bags to organize things more. This way I can pick up a bag, and see exactly what I need.

5 STEPS TO THE PERFECT BOOKSHELF

TINY LIVING?

Last summer, (I know forever ago) I started a DIY project with my grandpa, and we created this very bookshelf you see in the photos! I really wanted a place in my room to display all my journals, and coffee table reads because my space is limited in my bedroom, so hence my online search began...only to discover it was going to cost me over $400. Darn my Pottery Barn taste, haha. My grandpa can build anything, especially with wood. So our two hour adventure into Lowe's Hardware, my grandpa's woodworking talent, two days worth of painting, my beautiful pottery barn inspired bookshelf was finished. And the best part, it only cost about $150 in supplies!!

My bookshelf is now finally decorated with pieces I love dearly, so I wanted to share with you all today some easy ways to style your own bookshelf! I've taken many pieces from here and there to create this look, so it has taken awhile for me to figure out my style. I experimented with different books, colors, and pieces, all of which I kept and tossed over these few months, so I think I'm ready to share a few tips that hopefully help you all today!

1. GREENERY: Add plants! Yes, it's that simple. I found this succulent holder at HomeGoods for around twenty dollars. I absolutely how it adds a fresh pop of color, and the texture of the wood helps considering how white everything is! Oh, and I always say fake plants are the way to go here on a bookshelf. I tried a live succulent in a DIY pot I made a while back, but I found it too difficult to water, and then once I did, it never ended back on the shelf because the pot leaked soil and water all the time.

2. CHOOSE A COLOR PALETTE: This is why it took me forever to truly love the overall look to my bookshelf. I knew I wanted everything to be white, and bright, so I decided on soft colors. As you see I have a lot of the same colors, just in different shades to add contrast. Not everything has to match, but if you prefer more structure, just place it all in some type of storage container.

3. PLACE BOOKS STRATEGICALLY: When adding books to my shelfs, I didn't want it to look all messy, or out of place. I wanted everything to match with my palette, and thus I began to display each set of books differently on each shelf. As you see, I place my books vertically leaning on the side, and stacked upon each other!

4. USE STORAGE: My bookshelf also serves as a tv stand in my bedroom, so I needed a place for my movies, remotes, etc. To add more variety to each shelf, I used a blue whitewash crate for my movies, a black iron basket for extra journals, and at the very bottom a brown iron crate with handles that holds small craft jars. For a tiny space, I try to decorate for my aesthetic, but also for practical function.

5. ADD THE EXTRA'S: This part was my favorite. Decorate with little items that mean the most to you. They can be candles, little figurines, photo frames, artwork, or vases. Your options are limitless!
