Being a Light in the Darkness

11.04.2012

Lately I have been thinking about witnessing. I've been wanting to know more about it, and how to do it. It has been on my heart lately that I really want to share the word of God with others. My great grandfather recently passed away. He was a strong believer! But It made me think about those who have lost loved ones who were not believers. I can't imagine loving someone so dear and know that they won't be spending eternity in heaven with Jesus Christ. I am so scared to go witness to other people. My biggest fear is that they will reject me and what I have to say...or that I won't know what to say when they ask me certain questions. I have never been witnessing before, and my goal this month is to try it. My church goes witnessing at the mall on Friday nights. I really feel like the Lord is wanting me to be a light in the darkness! To be a light to those who don't know Him. As a Christian it is our job to go tell others about Him. Share the good news! Here are a few verses that really stood out to me, and spoke to my heart... Matthew 5:16 "In the same way let your light shine before me, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Ephesians 5:8 states "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light." Proverbs 13:9 "The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out." So If you could remember to pray for me this month...I would greatly appreciate it. Please pray that God would give me the courage to talk to these people, and that my fear would not take control over my feelings of being so scared! Thank you so much.

  1. I can totally understand your fears, Jenna. I felt the same way when I was doing campus ministering to college students about the issues of abortion. Just remember that the Holy Spirit will work through you by your actions and words, and that some people will reject the message that you speak, not you even though it may seem that way. :) Take heart, and be of good courage!

  2. That's great! You are are courageous young woman and I know God will use your willing heart :)

Remember too that a big part of witnessing is by living a life pleasing to God overall. You are a witness to people you encounter every day. It doesn't take someone purposefully walking up to someone and starting a conversation with them about God to consider them a witness. A huge part of it is being a Godly example of nobleness, justness, and a pure heart in a tainted world in every day settings!

  3. I totally understand where you are coming from. My grandparents are very old and not very healthy. My family has tried witnessing to them, but they are just stuck in their ways and don't want to change. All I can do is pray.

    1. Yes I understand I have family members who are not Chirstians! It breaks my heart knowing that they do not have faith in the Lord! Please do not give up though, keep witnessing to them...& keep talking to them about Christ, & maybe how he's been working in your life. I will be praying or your family along with mine and all those who don't know the Lord! :) Thank you for commenting, I really appreciate it!

    1. Witnessing is going and telling others about Gods word; the Bible! Letting people know more about who God really is.Because there are millions of people who are not saved and who do not know Christ...so by witnessing you can share with them what being a Christian is all about. And hopefully they will become a believer of Christ! :) Hope this helps!
